MusicMatch
MusicMatch. This player remains at the top of its class. It finally justifies its price tag, with easier CD creation and support for the impressive new mp3PRO encoding scheme. Get it for a jukebox that does it all; for simple playback, stick with Winamp. The good: Full-featured, all-in-one audio player, ripper, and burner; Super Tagging feature makes it easier to keep track of files; large selection of streaming radio stations. The bad: Complicated, hard-to-navigate interface. Just when you thought it couldn't pack anything else into its popular player, along comes version 8.0. It includes all the features you expect from an audio player, including an MP3 ripper, a CD burner, and a music jukebox, and version 8.0 adds improved burning and support for a new encoding scheme called mp3PRO. Add stellar radio features, which now include a radio "wish list" that lets you tag songs that you might want to (gasp!) purchase later, and this version may finally be worth paying for. Get it if you're serious about your music files, but newbies who just want an audio player should steer clear of dizzying feature set and go with Winamp instead. MusicMatch scores major points in the extras category, with one key feature carrying it most of the way. When you're listening to an MP3, there is a button called Now Playing that you can click on in the main player window. This will change your library listings to a database run by MusicMatch that takes the Author, Track and CD categories from the ID3 tag of the MP3 and gives you information on the artist and album the of song you are listening to in web page form. Under the Now Playing section, you can also directly download any free MP3s that the author released. I thought this was a great feature to add to an MP3 player, and it also enables you to buy the CD through Amazon.com. You will start to see features like ‘Buy Now' with many MP3 players as it will help them keep out of legal trouble.
